Moments to Remember: PE Club

Since moving ((nearly six months ago!!?)), it's been slow going in the area of making new friends.  That is, until we met a fab family from church, and they, in pure loving kindness, invited us into their home for lunch.  I fell for the gal at hello: she's energetic, warm, transparent, speaking in psalms and hymns to bless my ears and heart.  And the bonus?  Well, there are many we've discovered while mining through both of their minds, but here are three:

1. They are older than us, both in age and in the Lord; I've always hungered for a more mature woman to help to shape me as a wife and mother, but especially as a woman.

2. They home school their children, ages 12, 11, 9, and 2, which means glean, glean, glean, while...

3. She introduced me to a Home School P.E. Club, which is a perfect way for me to branch out and meet even more home school moms in or near my area, and the kids get exercise while playing with their new friends, too.

Plus, P.E. Club is great for our financial and time budgets: all three school-aged children attend the same event, be it swimming, fencing(!), soccer, etc., at the same time, same day, and for the same cost.  Soooo much different than spending your week toting your kiddos from here to there and attempting to keep the little ones entertained without disturbing the solemn classical ballet class, or trying to keep them off the gymnastics apparatus for two hours straight and in the middle of nap time!  Whew!

And I love that the lessons are in three-week groupings, with a hike on the last week, before moving on to something new.  Here's how it works: the founder and organizer approaches businesses that don't normally offer comparable programs to the public and definitely not during off-peak hours and convinces them to create a short-term program for us.  It turns out to be a win-win situation: the business gets revenue never before expected, with the possibility of return customers, and we get cheap fun for the whole home school family!  I call it pure home school mom genius: three children engaged in nine different activities and nine hikes in one school year for less than the cost of one!

All I know is, if we ever move again, which is quite likely, I am starting a P.E. Club somewhere, somehow.  File this one under: Great Idea to Steal.

  1. I am so glad to hear that you found a friend, and even better a family that you ALL can hook up with. Awesome. P.E. Club sounds cool. You'll have to give me the specific deets when you come. Maybe I can hook it up, Idaho style. Whatever that is.

  2. What a fantastic club! We just do the music for snobs and the Beckham stuff but that is enough to drive me crazy!! I would love to do something like that near to us.
